Social Narrative: Visiting the Exhibition
This story explains what may happen when you visit the exhibition. Reading it ahead of time can help you feel prepared.
Before the Visit
I decide when I want to go to the gallery, I can book an appointment online via the google form. I can go alone or with someone I trust. I can look at pictures or read about the gallery before I arrive.
Arriving at the Gallery
When I arrive, I will see the entrance to 84 Maiden Lane. The door is easy to enter. I may see other visitors coming and going. This is okay. A person at the front desk will ask you to sign in, you may need a photo ID. They will direct you to the elevator which you can take to the 4th Floor.
Meeting Staff
A staff member might say hello. I can say hello back, nod, or not respond. All of these are okay. If I need help, I can ask at any time.
Inside the Space
Inside, I will see artwork on the walls. I can move at my own pace. I can stand, sit, or use my mobility aid. I do not have to see everything. If I would like to, I can interact with the looms. A member of the Intertwine Arts staff will be available to assist me.
Sounds and Sights
The gallery is usually quiet. I may hear voices or footsteps. The lights help me see the art clearly. If I feel uncomfortable, I can take a break.
My Choices Matter
I choose what I look at. I can leave and return if I want. My experience belongs to me.
Leaving the Gallery
When I am ready, I can exit the gallery the same way I entered. I may feel proud that I visited.
